For this Reflection assignment, you will read pages from Life Magazine: 100 Women that Changed the World. You will find the entire Life Magazine in the top of the Content section, or can refer to these selected pages during the week the Reflection is due in the Content section.
Consider the following when putting together your Reflection:
1. Out of the ladies in each section, you will be required to choose two that captivate your attention. Compare and contrast each woman, and their reason for being influential.
2. Next, include why they caught your eye and what particularly stood out to you.
3. Lastly, you’ll need to choose one of the two ladies as the one who better fits you; this could be because you look up to her, feel she’s worthy of impacting a new generation of women, or why her story was more appealing and influential to you.
4. This response should be personalized and opinionated, but also parallel the history and overall accuracies of the women.
-Please refer to the bio of each lady, and also consider what you might have learned in class (if the lady has been mentioned up to that point).
-Also take into consideration what you might know beforehand about the impact and importance of these women.
5. Your Reflection must be typed, two pages in length, double spaced, in size 12 font. Hand written reflections will not be accepted.
You will have four separate Reflection assignments throughout the semester; the birth of each influential lady will parallel the time period we’ll be discussing in class. That being said, she might not make an impact on the world during the time period we’re discussing, but perhaps much later in her life.
Your choices for this Reflection include the following:
-Dolley Madison -Florence Nightingale -Jane Addams
-Jane Austen -Clara Barton -Ida B. Wells
-Sacagawea -Harriet Tubman -Nellie Bly
-Mary Shelley -Mother Jones -Marie Curie
-Harriet Beecher Stowe -Mary Cassatt -Henrietta Swan Leavitt
-Ada Lovelace -Emmeline Pankhurst -Rosa Luxemburg
-Clara Schumann -Annie Oakley
-Susan B. Anthony

About the Assignment
Andrea Lundsford et al. explains, “[d]epending on what the audience looks like, we will make very different decisions about what, and how, to write” (145). Put another way, in order to understand what an audience thinks of your ideas, you’ll first need to learn to understand how the idea of audiences shapes the texts all around you.
Think, for example, of a TV advertisement you know well. What time of day the ad plays, on what channel, and during what television show can tell you a lot about what kinds of people the marketers think might buy their product. The actual content of the ad will help you guess at a target audience as well. And if these two things don’t match up with reality, that company may be unsuccessful in selling their product! Writing an audience analysis is about identifying the factors in a text that lead to or hinder an author’s success at reaching their intended audience.
For this assignment, you will compose an audience analysis of a digital text chosen from http://everyonesanauthor.tumblr.com/. In composing your analysis, you’ll need to identify the rhetorical situation of the text—its audience, its medium, its purpose, and come to some decision about how effective that text is likely to be for the situation you identify.
We’ll begin by reviewing some parts of argument you may already know something about—the three Aristotelian appeals, and the elements of rhetorical situation. Though Aristotelian argument is focused primarily on logic, we will focus our attention on his characterization of speaker credibility and emotional appeal. We will also consider methods of argumentation appropriate to digital contexts, such as visual design.
For this assignment, you’ll write a 5-6 page analysis of the text you’ve chosen from the Everyone’s an Author tumblr. Be sure to choose a text with enough substance for a good analysis—you’ll want something using a variety of methods and appeals. Also keep in mind that an analysis is not the same thing as a response—so you should choose a text you feel you can write about objectively. It’s okay to choose something you have a strong reaction to, but it’s important to keep in mind that your analysis should not include your opinion about the topic, rather it should focus on the how and why the author composed their text for a specific audience.
Finally, remember that an analysis is a kind of argument too! You’ll be applying the strategies we learn about in class even as you are discussing them—you will need to find ways to appear credible to academic readers, for instance.
In grading this assignment, I will be looking closely for the following criteria, alongside assignment guidelines and the standard conventions of strong academic writing:
A clear, focused analytical thesis statement addressing the success of a text at achieving its purpose for a particular audience
A well-designed, organized presentation of evidence for your claim, lead by analytical statements
Integration of well-selected evidence from your text, which is then analyzed, developed and explained
Properly documented in MLA
A consistently articulated purpose and point-of-view
Remember that an analysis is different from a report or a summary—you need to make an arguable claim about the success of a text, then back your claim with convincing evidence. Listing examples of strategies, on its own, is not enough to develop an argument, but if you’re stuck it can be a very good way to get started!

Deliverable Length: 5-pages
In some countries, consumer attitudes toward foreign products reflect their desire to protect the company’s competitiveness in the home market. Even governmental entities tend to protect the company’s competitiveness in the home market. To counter this protectionism, some organizations operate their foreign subsidiaries as independent units with minimum interference from headquarters and allow their foreign subsidiaries to take more responsibility, such as adapting designs and manufacturing product to meet local needs. Conversely, other organizations operate their entire international operations as a single, global-market segment and market the same product worldwide maximizing economies of scale both in production and research and development (R&D). Discuss the three primary models of international marketing that address the marketing mix:
Your discussion should include the following:
Discuss the three models and how they differ.
Describe whether a company markets a product or service influences the choice of one model over another.
Discuss how cultural differences may affect the choice of model.
If you use sources to support your discussion, please cite your sources.

Your exam is to be a minimum of three (3) type-written, single-spaced pages following the guidelines presented in the course syllabus.
On Friday November 28, 2014 Governor Jay Nixon of Missouri indicated that he was calling a special legislative session to deal with the rising costs incurred by the state related to the protests and civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri (read NYT article Though Strain and Damage Are Visible, Uneasy Truce Holds in Ferguson (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., by Alan Blinder and Mitch Smith, 2014).
Civil unrest whether in Ferguson, Missouri or Miami, Florida requires a collaborative and engaged response from government organizations. Farmbry (2009) writes that “the public servant of the future will have to work with increasingly diverse population in mind and with a better understanding of his or her processes of constructing images of The Other as someone influenced by his or her actions (p. xxiii)”. For this exam you are being asked to apply themes explored in the first half of PAD 5043 to government and minority group relations using Ferguson, Missouri as the example.
For this exam you should select three (3) current (2013 – 2018) sources of information (One article from an academic journal, one government report and one article from popular media [New York Times or Washington Post for example]) that have examined government and minority relations in Ferguson, Missouri. After examining your selected sources, present the following:
The main argument or thesis for each source;
A discussion of the contribution made to course materials and concepts (by the author(s) of each article and report), including course texts and dialogue (Discussion Board where applicable); and
Identification and assessment of recommendations for improving and enhancing government and minority group relations in Ferguson.
Please validate your arguments by incorporating and properly citing relevant literature.
The criteria that will be used to assess the exam include the following:
indicators of subject content knowledge,
indicators of critical thinking,
organization in communication and progression of ideas,
organization in content and development of response, language, and conventions.
Points will be awarded based on
the conceptualization of arguments,
assessment of literature,
whether all components of the question are addressed and your application of relevant and useful knowledge gleaned from the course texts,
course dialogue and discussion,
other useful academic literature and other useful resources.
Application, incorporation, and proper citation (of academic and nonacademic references) are expected. A list of references should be included.
Please heed the grading criteria identified in the syllabus and the exam grading rubric.
Level of Achievement
(99% – 100%)
All of the major indicators are demonstrated at the level of exemplary (Category 5). All of the components of the exam are beyond superior especially in comparison to other reviews that have been submitted.
(94% – 96%)
All to most of the indicators are demonstrated at the level of proficiency and mastery, the assignment is reflective of outstanding mastery of subject content knowledge, critical thinking and assessment, clarity in the communication of ideas and arguments, use of relevant language and vocabulary, and use of all conventions.
(91% – 93%)
The responses to parts a to c each of the indicators presented above in some degree or in combination are generally very good, the exam reflects a very good grasp of the relevant facts and important linkages, but is not reflective of the breadth and depth that would characterize the assignment as either proficient or exemplary. The language is not precise and purposeful. The conventions are not without error.
(88% – 90%)
The exam reflects an attempt to respond to the requirements of the assignment. The submitted assignment reflects a good grasp of some theory and some ideas but it is clear that the exam is more descriptive than analytical and that a deeper assessment of the relevant literature is needed. Additional effort is needed with the organization and development of arguments and ideas. Additional effort is needed to reflect mastery of the use of conventions.
(84% – 87%)
(.84 – .87): The exam reflects an adequate attempt to respond to the requirements of the assignment. While the demonstration of the indicators presented above demonstrate that theory and ideas from the course have been applied, the review merely repeats arguments and ideas but does not demonstrate the ability to engage in critical assessment and analysis. Additional work may be needed with the organization and development of the exam, vocabulary and language may need to be bolstered, and the use of conventions may need additional work.
(80% – 83%)
The exam reflects an attempt to respond to parts a to c but is not reflective of an adequate grasp of the relevant literature, facts, and theories. The responses are reflective of a superficial exploration of the literature. The arguments are not clear. The language and vocabulary used are not precise. Multiple errors exist with the use of conventions.
(75% – 79%)
The exploration and assessment presented in the exam are unsatisfactory and reflective of a below average understanding and grasp of the relevant literature and the expected requirements of the assignment.
